About Women Of The Lens Film Festival

Since its 2017 debut, Women Of The Lens has been a Festival dedicated to showcasing the talents of Black women in the film industries. Founded by Jenifer G. Robinson, Women Of The Lens accepts British and international productions. The Festival was created to facilitate industry partnerships; develop audience engagement with rarely seen images of Black women; highlight and celebrate achievement and contribute to the wider discourse around representation and media education. Whilst our stories are by and for Black women, the Festival sincerely welcomes working with others who will support the ethos and spirit of Women Of The Lens through their own work.

Founder and Director Jennifer G. Robinson says: “…I’m really proud of the amazing support that the Festival continues to receive from all different types of people and organisations. This helps us to make deeper impacts when serving our industry’s communities. Especially since the SAG-AFTRA strikes and the ripple effect we’re all feeling across the globe, now more than ever, independent filmmaking and its supporting industries such as festivals, should come into the fore to deliver authentic and powerful stories that are reflective of a diverse society, and an industry that aims to build nurturing environments for those in front of and behind the camera…”

About Founder/Director Jennifer G. Robinson

The brainchild behind Women Of The Lens is Jennifer G. Robinson. She has over 25 years of experience working in the creative industries. In 2015, Jennifer was the Festival Coordinator for one of the longest running UK black film festivals – the Black Filmmaker International Film Festival created by the late filmmaker Menelik Shabazz. As well as Women Of The Lens Film Festival, Jennifer also has a communications consultancy specialising in film. To say that Jennifer is ‘passionate’ about the industry is clichéd, but it is the best word to use that describes her innate commitment and loyalty to create and deliver a Festival of integrity which grows to fulfil its and her vision.
