Although Knives Out 3 stalled, writer and director Rian Johnson gave an update on the next installment.

Rian Johnson’s latest update on the third Glass Onion film will please fans of Knives Out and Knives Out 2.

He mastered the murder mystery genre from his debut film, Brick (2005). As a result of Knives Out, the whodunit genre was revitalized and a sequel was made. Johnson created Poker Face, a murder mystery series on Peacock that was renewed for a second season. Johnson is constantly changing the formula of his whodunits, making his latest projects unique.

During an interview with The Wrap, Johnson shares that he is fully focused on writing Knives Out 3 now that the writers’ strike has ended. “It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along,” Johnson said. “I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.”

He assures that he has a solid premise, setting, and overall concept for the movie already mapped out in his mind; he just needs to put it all down on paper. It appears that while Johnson does not have a completed script yet, he definitely has a clear outline for the film.

If Knives Out 3 follows the themes of the first two movies, fans can expect Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc to try to solve a wealthy person’s death. As Johnson stated in another interview, he wanted to move away from the subtitle A Knives Out Story that accompanied Glass Onion. Johnson has not yet revealed a title for the third film, but hopefully one with Johnson’s new subtitle will be revealed soon.

Exciting news

Johnson is already working on Knives Out 3, following the success of the first film. Fans were relieved to see a break from the usual blockbuster films at the box office with the first installment’s intriguing murder mystery. Glass Onion, the sequel, expertly continued the anthology series while maintaining its unique charm. One can only hope that Johnson will continue this winning streak with Knives Out 3. Fans eagerly anticipate Blanc’s next case, potential cast members, and perhaps even a cameo from The Muppets.
